Fasting and Prayer for Spiritual Breakthrough

Joel 2:12-14 tell us, "Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God? Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly...." Then Joel 2:28 tells us, "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions."

It is amazing in Scripture the direct link between fasting and prayer and the outpouring of God's Spirit with Miracles, Signs and Wonders.  God loves to bless His children! But He has chosen to do it in response to the faith and prayers of His people.  When we humble ourselves to seek God and deny self, God will answer us in power! In the book of Joel, God is telling the people of Judah through Joel to call a fast.  Now, a fast is doing with food [a physical necessity] in order to seek God and draw closer to Him.

Jentezen Franklin had it right when He said, "It's not nutty to go without food for a set

period of time in order to get closer to God. It is Nutty instead to settle for a mediocre, lukewarm relationship with Jesus!" HE IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!  Too often we settle for mediocrity and lukewarmness, when God is calling us to be on fire for Him and offer cups of cold water in His Name!

The prophet Joel, said that "Afterward [after we humble ourselves and seek God through fasting and prayer], He would pour out His Spirit.  He promised not only to pour out His Spirit, but to restore all the years that the locust [of sin] had taken away! 

Don't you long to experience God in a powerful and intimate way!?!  If so, you need to set aside a time to fast and pray and seek God! To begin the year at the Creek, we are fasting and praying for 21 days to seek God and ask for Miracles to be done in our midst as He pours out His Spirit upon us!  I'm asking for at least 1 person per day from January 6th - 26th to fast for 24 hours and pray, feasting upon the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ! 

GOOD NEWS!!! WE'VE ALREADY EXCEEDED THAT NUMBER IN COMMITMENTS TO FAST AND PRAY!!!

I'm also asking that some of you pray with me about fasting longer.  In the Bible they fasted 1 day, 3 days, 10 days, 21 days and 40 days!  It is important however to set a specific goal for your fast after praying about it! If it's just the 1 day, fill that day with God's Word, Presence and Prayer! If it's longer, fill those days with the same and DON'T QUIT but press through to the finish!  

Personally, Fasting will....

• Reap health benefits: weight loss and detoxification being the major ones.
• Teach you self discipline and control.
• Humble yourself before God.
• Build character.
• Show your dependence on God.
• Deepen your appreciation for God and His blessings of daily bread.
• Teach you perseverance and endurance!
• Break the power of the Enemy and Addictions in your life!
• Allow the Holy Spirit greater access to EVERY corner of your life thus EMPOWERING you to do the Impossible for God's glory!

Jesus said in Matthew 17:21 that some Demonic Strongholds areAllo only broken through fasting and prayer! As you seek God diligently through fasting and prayer, you will begin to see weaknesses surface that you can immediately make a matter of prayer! GOD WILL PERFECT YOU IN HOLINESS AS YOU FAST AND PRAY! He will begin to show you strongholds that the Enemy has had in your life and you can begin to pray against them! Jesus has promised that when we fast and pray, those strongholds WILL BE BROKEN!
