Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Psa 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
I heard a saying recently that went like this:
God's Word...
Know it in your head.
Stow it in your heart.
Show it in your life. And
Sow it in the world.
In Colossians 3:16, Paul admonishes us to "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly." That word "dwell" actually means "to be at home." Paul is saying that God's word ought to be at home in our lives. It means that it can come in the front door and there are no rooms that are off limits.
Last night, when I got home, I came in the back door and before the night was over, I had gone through every room and closet. Why? Because I was at home. However, sometimes when company comes over unexpectedly, we don't have time to clean all the rooms. So, we only clean the main one's and shut the doors to the dirty one's. In other words, some rooms are off limits.
Six months ago we put our house on the market. Now, company can drop by at a moment's notice. So, we have to keep all rooms and closets clean all the time, because we don't know when someone might want to drop by and look at the house. I believe that is how we should be when it comes to the Word of God.
It should be so at home that we're not afraid for it to go into any rooms of our life, because there are none off limits. We often want to compartmentalize our lives, and say, "Well, the word applies to my going to church on Sunday, but this other area, well that's my thing." If we are saved, the Scripture says we are not our own. There is nothing that belongs to us, and if Jesus is Lord, the answer is always, "Yes," to whatever he tells us to do.
The word of God then applies to our thought life, our busines practices, how we treat others beginning with our spouse and children, our appetites, our leisure time (what we do for fun and when we do it; how about what we listen to or watch on TV?), and every other are of our life. God's word and God's peace umpire in our lives. They make the final call on all matters, including where we go, what we do, and when we do it. We abide by their call whether we like it or not!
I ask you today, "Is God's word at home in your heart?" Are you hiding it there, so you won't sin against God? Does it have complete access to every part of your life? If not, start today. Study it; heed it; hide it; memorize it; meditate on it; and let it rule. God has a wonderfully abundant life waiting on us, if we just trust Him enough to do it His way. God bless you!

This blog really hit me between the eyes when I read it. As you talk about the home and how we clean it up when someone comes over or how we shut certain doors when someone unexpectingly drops by I began to think about our body as a home. A home has many doors that lead to rooms and as that is our body (our life) has doors that lead to certain things (rooms) some good and some bad. When we go to church or are around other Christian people we do tend to start closing doors and hiding the things that are behind them if they are not cleaned up. Maybe over the door reads lust, adultery, alcoholism, drugs, pornography, jealousy so when we know we are going to be around Christians we hurry and close those doors so no one can see what's behind those doors. We keep open all the doors that have something good in them. So as you were saying we need to do some house cleaning within our own lives. Preaching to myself here but we do need to hide the word in our hearts we need it to clean up those rooms of sin so we can have them open at all times. The word will begin to eat away at those sins that are behind the doors that no one knows about and finally if we keep the word ongoing in our lives and believe it it will finally destroy those sins until they are no more. Then as a clean house should be there will be a smell of such refreshing fragrance and a look that anyone can tell has to be from the Lord.
Well I am glad that I am not the only person who puts clothes in the closet, and shuts the door real quick when company Comes over!! LOL
I can really attest to the comment! Years ago when I got saved, at the time I was smoking alot. I started smoking tobacco since I was 15 years of age. When I got saved I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day. I remember I would put my packs under my car seat or in my console when I went to church so no one would no that I smoked at church.
One time I remember I went out with this girl after church. I mistakenly opened up my console and out poped my stash. That was the last date with that girl. Even though I could over look her having a kid she could not overlook me have smoking...(I thought that was a bit odd), But I remembered how embarised I was to have someone find out my dirty little secret. I was always hiding those things...that is till my Lord took them from my lips.
We should always be ready for the Lord to come. One of the things I thought was so interesting about the bride of Christ study...is that when the groom left the bride would alway have to have her stuff packed up ready because at any time her husband could come at any moment!...Our Lord is comming agian and we who are the Bride of Christ should make our self ready for the Lords Return!!
